Creating Iconic Black & White Images in Your Camera Workshop

June 1 - 5, 2026

Today’s digital photographic technology has opened new doorways to explore the creation of black and white images. In this five-day workshop we will be taking the time to stir the gray matter and learn the creative visual possibilities of the monochromatic image created directly in the camera. We begin with learning how to see in monochrome as the camera sees, then move through the technical aspects of in-camera settings and adjustments. Putting the computer and Lightroom away, we will use the new technologies to produce classic film-like black and white images directly in the camera. We will bring together the aesthetic and technical considerations for the iconic black and white photograph providing a new vision for thoughtful and timeless image creation.

  • IN-CAMERA IMAGE CREATION

  • NO RAW

  • NO LIGHTROOM

  • NO POST-PROCESSING

  • PRINT QUALITY FILES

Just say "YES" to print quality JPG's.

Working directly in your camera, you will discover many of the settings used in Lightroom during post-processing can be easily determined and applied during image creation. The result: a print quality film-like image.

The northwest corner of New Mexico is a vast and captivating landscape.  As you embark on your five-day workshop you will have the rare opportunity to experience and capture breathtaking landscapes and the rich history of Dinétah.

Creating Iconic Black & White Images in Your Camera Workshop is based out of the Casa Blanca Inn in Farmington, NM, doorway to Dinétah.  Each day after a hearty breakfast you will learn new camera techniques and then set out to a field location where you will immerse yourself with the land and its spirit.  The goal at the end of the day is to transform that sense of place into iconic black and white images.
